Great to see you back Tom! I really appreciate your thoughts about clear roles (and perhaps also respecting those roles once they are appointed!)
21.2 Says that "Israel made a vow to the Lord." How? Presumably it means that representative individuals, Moses or the priests, made that vow. It is extremely interesting to me that somehow the corporate cry of the people can be expressed in one person. God said he heard the cry of the people in Egypt, so He raised up Moses. Their cry was thus in a sense expressed through Moses. Sometimes for leaders it can be frustrating dealing with a people who don't seem entirely behind you. It is encouraging to realise that we may be the expression of their heart cry; even if they later on they don't recognise that.
