Genesis 10-12, Matthew 4

The tower of Babel reveals the pride of mankind, and the desire to be 'great on the earth'. God is not impressed even by the united efforts of the people. They wanted to be self-sufficient. God goes on to choose a single man, Abram, with his family. Abram would be God-sufficient - "I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you..." (12v2).
In Matthew, Jesus is tempted by Satan, and reveals the secret of a righteous life - living by the word of God alone.
