Matthew 4

17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

"Repent" is the Greek word metanoeo. Metanoeo literally means to perceive afterwards. Repentance is primarily a change of mind and not a change of action. Fruit bears out the reality of the transformed mind, but when we seek change in our lives, it is our thought processes that must be tackled first. On the gates of the Nazi prison camps were written the words arbeit macht frei, but Jesus declared that the truth shall set us free. Perceiving the Kingdom, "rightly recognizing the body of Christ", is the pathway to progress.
